Fatal Tour Bus Crash on Interstate 25

A fatal tour bus wreck closed Interstate 25 in both directions just over a week ago, when a tour bus, semi truck, pickup truck, and car were involved in a deadly collision. Sadly, three people were killed in the wreck and 24 others were injured, some critically. The motor vehicle accident occurred just north of Bernalillo, New Mexico, which is about 18 miles north of Albuquerque. There were a total of 25 passengers and two drivers on the tour bus.

The bus began its route in Denver, Colorado and was on its way to El Paso, Texas. Two bus drivers took turns driving the vehicle. The accident occurred just after 2:00 am on Sunday, July 15, 2018. A car struck a pickup truck from behind, ejecting the driver of the car onto the road. The tour bus driver tried to swerve to avoid the ejected driver, but in doing so, lost control of the bus. The bus rolled onto its right side when a semi truck sideswiped it. In the aftermath of the motor vehicle accident, several people were left trapped inside the bus and had to be extricated by first responders.

Three victims died of their injuries and 24 more were hospitalized, with four listed in critical condition after the crash. While the exact cause of the roadway accident is still under investigation, it serves as a reminder for all drivers to always drive safely and responsibly.

Common Causes of Nighttime Accidents

Unfortunately, the nighttime auto accident attorneys at Liggett Law Group see these types of accidents all too often. Although late at night roads are not as busy as they are during the day, driving at night does pose unique risks. Most obviously, there is significantly less light at night, which restricts vision. Even with headlights, drivers do not have the same clarity of vision as they do during the day. Driving at night also exposes people to the risk of drowsy driving. Whether it’s an individual taking a road trip or a trucker trying to meet a deadline, drivers who drive tired could fall asleep at the wheel; and, it only takes a moment for an accident to happen.
